PEPP held Core Community Value sessions with community members 3 times during August and September. The goal of these discussions was to have valuable dialogue that would identify our Core Community Values and Standards. The facilitated groups then prioritized their values and standards and then developed questions for the Candidates based on these Community Core Values. Enclosed below are the questions developed from these sessions with a 'Report Card' for each Candidate

District 9A's Candidate’s Forum Questions

Education:

1. Are you willing to take steps to promote the education enforcement of anti- discrimination laws relating to the public school  system?
2. Will you support human rights education programs for teachers, staff, and students as related to the Universal Declaration of  Human Rights?
3. Would you work towards changing the funding formula to better provide for low-income school districts?
4. Will you work toward graduation standards that accommodate for the different learning styles of students and make              exceptions for students who are still moving ahead in school?
5. Will you support programs that allow equal access of all students to private schools?

Income and Employment:

1. Will you increase the funding for childcare assistance with an increased limit on allowable incomes?
2. Will you allocate research funds to determine the livable wage in our community?

Housing:

1. Will you work to leverage funds from either Minnesota HFA and/or HUD for more accessible housing in Moorhead?
(Low income/seniors)

Community Climate:

1. Will you value the unique perspectives and contributions of our community members? And how will you do value these different perspectives and contributions?
2. Will you agree to build community relationships so that you’re able to effectively lobby at the revenue source not appropriate for tax structure beneficial to the community and its needs?
3. Will you meet with the various diversity groups and minority status groups in the community to build relationships?
4. Are you aware of your personal prejudices and blind spots?

Public Safety:

1. Would you work to implement an external audit of public safety agencies to ensure non-discrimination?
2. Do you support treatment rather than incarceration for non-violent drug offenders?

Recreation and Sports Questions:

1. Will you invite community-based groups to lobby with you at the capitol for recreation and sports initiatives?
2. Will you advocate for human rights trainings for employees related to recreation and sports?

4. Will you leverage funding for a year-round indoor recreation/sports facility?
5.Will you advocate for a progressive taxation so money gets to our community for recreation and sports?
